Ukulele Sizes Guide | Soprano, Concert, Tenor and Baritone
In this video I get a little bit hands on with some different sized ukuleles. I explain the differences between the soprano, concert, tenor and baritone and give you a sound demo and my thoughts on each.
Also, you'll find out why a lot of people are wrong when they think the soprano might be too small for them to play.

Improve Your Strumming Instantly On Ukulele
Просмотров 2,2 тыс.Год назад
In this short lesson I look at a technique that will pretty much instantly improve your timing and rhythm (if you're not already doing it that is). We're looking at strumming, or the act of strumming even when there is no strum to play. Keeping your hand moving will act like a pendulum and your strumming hand will become your metronome, your timing will be better and your rhythm playing will ge...

Kala Bamboo Ukulele Review

I take a look and review my first ukulele purchase of 2021, the Kala Bamboo Concert ukulele from Kala's Exotic Wood range of ukuleles. You can turn them almost a quarter of a turn and they do nothing at all. This is either sloppy work, or sloppy...

    I had a hard time believing that bamboo would make a good tone "wood" (bamboo is a grass, not a wood). I guess I've been proved right. This ukulele is cheap compared to the Martin one at half the price. The Martin has nasty HPL back and sides (HPL is similar to Formica). Personally I think bamboo looks ugly compared to real wood but that's me. Bamboo grows like a weed so I guess there's plenty of it but seeing that it's abundant and cheap, it's not like you need experts picking out the best pieces and aging them for years, why are they charging so much?

      @UkuleleGo 13 дней назад

      I do like the look of the bamboo but at this price point I think there are better options. I've actually seen some well reviewed ukuleles made from Formica in the past.

    Interesting, but then you don't have nails on either hand, and there are times that I want to be able to do finger picking and there's no way to do that kind of strum technique (bi-directionally) with fingernails, and just using the fleshy part of the fingertips. Maybe I have to give up on keeping some nail length on the right hand, but... I don't know! Aaaaaa!

    Here is a tip. Use low G to play blues on ukulele. You need to use the low G to really play blues solos on the ukulele. Also need to know double stops, bending the strings and hammer on and pull offs.

    Is muting on the fretboard an entirely different technique than hammer on & off?

    • @UkuleleGo

      It is, hammer ons and pull offs are there to get you extra notes without having to pick. Fretboard muting blocks notes out.

      Typically the larger ukuleles will have bigger nut widths but not by a huge amount. Maybe 2-3mm between a soprano and tenor as a very rough guide. Different manufacturers will vary though.

    • @UkuleleGo
      @UkuleleGo 5 месяцев назад

      Not necessarily no, I have two or three ukuleles that are either all solid or solid top and they are probably better than the laminates but they were all more expensive. Is it entirely down to the fact they're at least partially solid? I'm not so sure. I've read before that high end laminates are very good and low end solids not so good. That seems to make sense to me.
